Kendra Mae Young, age 35, of Pengilly, MN passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. "It's so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone."
Kendra was born in 1987 to Daniel and Debra (Hoard) Lundy in Deer River, MN. She grew up in Grand Rapids, MN, graduating from GRHS in 2006. She then went on to College of Dupage in Illinois. She transferred to Pivot Point International and graduated with her Cosmetology Degree.
Kendra was born with a clear purpose– to be an incredible mother to her three beloved boys, Otto, William, and Crew. She approached motherhood with an unmatched enthusiasm and devotion. Kendra's love for her sons knew no bounds, and she embraced every opportunity to create lifelong memories with them.
Always the goofy and silly mom, Kendra had a remarkable ability to infuse joy into the lives of her children. She constantly sought out new adventures and activities, ensuring that her sons experienced the wonders of the world around them. She cherished every moment spent with Otto, William, and Crew, and her children were truly her everything.
Beyond her role as a mother, Kendra was a gifted stylist and co-owner of the 1st Avenue Salon in Grand Rapids. Kendra's talents were truly exceptional, as she showcased her skills and creativity through her work. She earned numerous accolades during her time at cosmetology school, winning awards in class competitions.
What made Kendra's career truly special was her genuine love for her clients. She didn't just see them as customers but as friends. Kendra had a natural ability to connect with people, making them feel comfortable and valued in her presence. Through her talent and artistry, she transformed hairstyles, but more importantly, she uplifted spirits and instilled confidence in those she served. The relationships she formed with her clients were built on trust, and many of them became lifelong friends.
Kendra enjoyed spending time at the cabin, going to music festivals, crafting, and interior decorating. She loved starting her days with a big cup of coffee and a dose of the outdoors. As a loving, devoted daughter and sister, Kendra cherished her family deeply and was a source of unwavering support and affection. As a doting and loving "Auntie Keni", she showered her nieces and nephews with boundless love and attention, creating special bonds that will endure. Kendra's presence brought warmth and happiness to family gatherings, and her caring nature enriched the lives of her parents and siblings.
Kendra Mae Young was a beautiful soul who brought happiness to the lives of others. Her infectious laughter, warm smile, and caring nature will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and the indelible mark she made in the lives of her children, clients, and all those fortunate enough to cross her path.
Kendra is survived by the three loves of her life, Otto Young, William Young, and Crew Lokken; her parents: Debra & Conrad Groshong and Daniel & Lynn Lundy; sisters: Quincy (Casey) Higgins, Amber (Don) Tilden, Shelby (Dylan Hoppe) Fenske, Jaeli Ward, and Danalee Lundy; brother, Aaron Groshong; grandparents: Larry Hoard and Owen Lundy; best friend for life, Tanya (Adam) Washburn; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended relatives and friends.
Kendra's family invites her closest family and friends to attend her Remembrance of Life at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids. They invite all who knew and loved Kendra to a gathering at the Dutch Room (702 NW 4th St, Grand Rapids, MN 55744) at 3:00 P.M. following the cemetery service.
