Laura Josephine
Luoma
d. Feb 8, 2024
Grand Rapids
Laura Josephine Luoma, age 78, of Grand Rapids, Minn., passed away at home on Thursday, February 8, 2024, surrounded by the love and support of her children: Beth, Mindy, Joe, and notably her son Matt, who diligently cared for her throughout her courageous battle with cancer.
Laura "Copley" was born on December 2, 1945 to Joseph and Mabel Copley in Aitkin, Minn. Laura had a fervent love for the Lord and joyfully served Him every single day. Her ministry was her music. She loved to sing, write, and play music for the Lord and for others. She regularly played at the VFW, countless assisted living facilities, and any event she was invited to. She was incredibly gifted in playing several instruments and most recently, loved learning how to play her mandolin. If there was a bluegrass event nearby, you would surely find her there.
Laura radiated love and light to everyone around her. If you knew her, you loved her and she loved you, too. Her kind and gentle spirit made an impact on everyone she met. Laura loved her family and friends dearly, especially her great grandchildren.
Laura was so lucky to have had many great loves in her life. Laura married Richard Washburn on December 7, 1963. After Richard's passing in 2009, Laura later met Delbert Luoma, and wed on March 17, 2012. They spent several wonderful years together until he passed on June 16, 2015.
Laura is survived by her loving friend Lloyd, whom she spent just shy of 4 years together sharing their mutual love for the Lord and playing music. Laura is also survived by her daughters Beth and Mindy, sons Joe and Matt, grandchildren Brandon, Laura, Mariya, Garrett, Grant, Casey, Dakota, Colter, Grady, Shane and Ozzie, 6 great grandchildren and one on the way. She also leaves behind her sisters Jessie and Margaret, her brother Roland, her best friend Karen, along with countless other friends and relatives.
Laura was preceded in death by husband Richard, husband Delbert, sister Carrie, sister Frances and brother Joe.
Laura's Celebration of Life will be Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Aitkin Assembly of God church. Visitation will be from 11-1, with the service and luncheon after.
