Lorraine M.
Hassel
d. Nov 21, 2023
Nashwauk
Lorraine Mae Benolken, age 66, of Nashwauk, MN, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Essentia Health St. Mary's in Duluth, MN.
Lorraine Benolken was born in 1957 in Grand Rapids, MN to Max and Anna Mae Benolken. She grew up in and graduated from Nashwauk. Lorraine dedicated many years of her life as a caregiver, providing support to those in need. While known for her compassionate nature, she was a spitfire and equally known for that as well. She had a heart that knew no bounds and when she loved you, you knew it.
She spent 37 years of her life with her special and loving companion, Steve Hassel. Together they had many incredible adventures over the years including living in various beautiful areas across the country. She recently returned to her hometown to be closer to her family and friends. When she wasn't caring for others, she spent her free time creating beautiful and unique crafts and is more recently known for her one-of-a-kind gnomes. Lorraine cherished the moments spent with her family, except for the time her family made her go on the "Giant Drop" at Six Flags. She was not impressed but was still a good sport as usual. Above all, she loved her grandkids "Most" and "To The Moon and Back".
She is preceded in death by her parents; and infant daughter, Rikki. She is survived by her children, Dennis (Shannon) Benolken, and Troy (Jody Schumacher) Benolken; Rachel (Keith) Moran; companion of 37 years, Steve Hassel; sisters, Jody (Doran) Benolken, Darcy Benolken; brother, Max (Marsha) Benolken Jr.; grandchildren, Erica, Brandon, Payton, Alex, Malayna, Aubrey, and Avery; and many numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Lorraine's life will be planned for a later date. As a continuation of her giving spirit, Lorraine's last wishes of organ donation were fulfilled.
