Marvin "Marv" Dean Ott, age 82, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Monday, June 8, 2026, at Grand Village, Grand Rapids, MN.
Marvin was born November 20, 1943, in Hartley, IA to Emmert and Anna Ott. Marvin "Marv" grew up in Iowa and enjoyed helping his family on their large family farm. He and his family moved to Beardsley, MN in 1960 where he graduated from high school in 1961. Marv joined the U.S. Air Force after high school and served five years. Marv served active duty in the Vietnam War in 1965. On August 14, 1971, Marv was united in marriage to Mary Johnson in Grand Rapids, MN. He attended Metropolitan State University from 1971 until 1973. Marv worked for Wright County as a licensed drug and alcohol counselor. He moved to Grand Rapids, MN and worked for Itasca County with child support and welfare fraud and later was the Veterans Service Officer from 1998 until 2008. Marv was a member and an elder for many years for Salem Lutheran Church. Also, he was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, and White Oak Tractor Club. Marv had a special gift of relating to people and could always tell a good joke. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmert and Anna Ott; two daughters, Krista Ott and Rebekkah Guider; one brother, Maynard Ott; two sisters, Mary Sjoberg and Margaret Brown.
Marv is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary; one son, Kevin (Tiffani) Ott; three brothers, Merle (Mary) Ott, Melvin (Linda) Ott, and Mitchell Ott; 2 grandchildren, Lee and Jude Guider.
NOTE UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION: A visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Rowe Funeral Home Grand Rapids, MN and will continue at church on Saturday, June 13, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at New Song Alliance Church, Grand Rapids, MN with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Pastor Josh Lewins will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.
