Mary Long, age 87, of Sugarbrook Villa, rural Cohasset, MN passed away peacefully with her family at her side on August 19, 2024.

Mary Kathryn Long was born September 16, 1936, the daughter Roy and Dona (Pool) Humble in Urbana, Ohio.  Mary began her education in Ohio and then moved to the Deer River area where she continued her education.  She worked her entire career in cafés and truck stops including the Mileage Café in Grand Rapids, Truck Haven in Deer River and The Sportsman Café in Deer River as a cook, and waitressed as needed.  She was a very hard worker, doing whatever needed to be done in the kitchen to serve customers the best.   Mary married Richard "Dick" Long. Mary treasured her time with Dick.  Being an over-the-road truck driver, Mary often joined Dick and traveled throughout the United States.  She can be remembered for her love of BINGO!  She enjoyed the hobby of fishing and truly enjoyed eating fried fish as much as catching them.  Mary made her home in Sugarbrook Villa in 2021.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Dennis (Debra) Cowan, Donna Thomas, Delores Key, Darrell (Theresa) Cowan, Dick (Julie) Cowan, Doug (Jackie) Cowan, Mike (Judy) Cowan, and Keith (Teresa) Cowan; step-daughters, Ramona (Dave) Etter and Jeannie (Butch) Folk; numerous grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; siblings, Jimmy (Pam) Humble and Shirley (Steve) Kut; sister-in-law, Katie Humble; brother-in-law, Marvin Hart; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Dick who died February 21, 2005; her parents; a son, David Cowan who died as a young boy; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Pamela Cowan; and her siblings, Melvin Humble, Billy Humble, Maxine Norton, Carol Sue Hart and Doris Ann Humble as an infant.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 24, 2024 in the Pine Ridge Cemetery, Deer River, Minnesota.  Her brother-in-law, Marvin Hart will lead this service.
