Obituary

Mary Louise Matuska, age 93, passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.

Mary was born in 1932 to George and Norma Baldwin in Britt, IA and grew up in Mason City, IA. In 1946, the family moved to Grand Rapids, MN where Mary graduated high school. Mary met the love of her life pumping gas at 9-mile corner. After graduation Mary moved to St. Paul. Mary and Robert Matuska were united in marriage on September 8, 1951, after Robert returned from his military service. Together they lived in St. Paul for 25 years before moving back to Grand Rapids in 1975. Mary worked for several local banks, retiring in 1995.

Mary volunteered at Salvation Army for over 15 years. She was a ferocious knitter and needleworker, having it with her 24/7. Mary loved the farm – Robert's homestead. She will be fondly remembered as a meticulous and feisty family matriarch who loved to laugh.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Earl, Dale, George; and sister, Marjorie. She is survived by her husband of 73 ¾ years, Robert; the twins, Sue Mance and Thomas (Kathleen) Matuska; three grandchildren, Kristin, Robert (Stacie), Donald (Alycia); and five great-grandchildren, Calvin, Lainey, Mabel, Macklyn, and Reese.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to cureAHC.org or the Salvation Army.

Per Mary's request, no services will be held.
