Megan Gerak, age 51, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away in her home Tuesday April 21, 2026, from a sudden medical emergency. She leaves behind so many of us that love and miss her. She is preceded in her death by her father (Tim Chuck Gerak). She is survived by her daughter, Emily Gerak, her mother, Dorothy Rosin, her brother Michael Gerak (Jennifer Sedlak), her niece who is like a daughter Jayden Gerak (Blake Christen), her nieces, Mia Resto and Danielle Campbell Gerak, her significant other, Luke Vandrovec, her brother Matthew Gerak, and so many close friends and colleagues.

Megan was born in Cleveland, OH, but her family moved to Grand Rapids when she was a toddler. She attended Grand Rapids High School where her brother remembers her happily blaring Guns and Roses and Bon Jovi from her bedroom.

As a teenager and young adult, Megan worked at Country Kitchen, and she was eventually asked to spend a month in both Texas and Tennessee to manage the opening of two new restaurants. She attended Bemidji State University for undergrad and later returned to school to complete her master's degree in social work from The College of St. Scholastica, graduating in 2019. Immediately after completing her master's degree and gaining her LISCW, she worked for Lakeview Behavioral Health as a mental health therapist and clinical supervisor. Prior to her death, Megan was providing mental health services at her private practice, a very proud accomplishment for her. She felt passionate and deeply committed to her work and her clients. Before becoming a social worker, she worked for North Homes as a case manager supporting victims of domestic abuse and working with clients in the community. She was involved in volunteering and advocacy with organizations that were important to her which include the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the Leech Lake Reservation, and Project Care Free Clinic. She enjoyed supporting the local farmers market and ensured her voice was heard by attending No Kings Rallies.

She was a dedicated and loving mother to Emily. When Megan learned that Emily had a genetic disease, she quickly ensured Emily had the best care available and Megan remained up to date on the latest research and technology that could improve Emily's quality of life. She was such a kind and loving mother to Emily. She showed passion for making a meaningful difference which was exemplified by her involvement in advocating for those with disabilities within her community.

Megan was always up for anything. Any activity or travel friends or family would suggest Megan was excited to attend. A short list of things we remember about Megan including all of her favorite things are:

Friendsgiving with Brenna, Justin, and Doug
Hiking with Luke
Breakfast and lunch dates with all of her close family and friends
Running 5K races with friends and family. Her favorite races being Stomp on Stigma and the Grand Rapids Turkey Trot
Workout sessions at Spartan (her favorite was when the baby was there)
Attending concerts, particularly bringing Jayden and Clara to their first concerts
Traveling with family and friends
Fun surprises
Trying new recipes
Watching Rachel Maddow
Attending plays and musicals, especially Hamilton
Snuggling with Jayden on the couch when she visited
Hosting a foreign exchange student, Fjona, from Albania, with whom she developed a very close and enduring friendship
Her deep love for coffee (black)
Trying new classes with her close friends (painting, potting)
Pulling a good prank
Giving people the best nicknames
Her favorite flower was tulips
Huge animal lover to include her cat, Peepah, and many dogs/cats from around the neighborhood who she would adopt for a day or two.
Her family loved how she always said things backwards; "Potato Lake" instead of "Lake Potato," or "Cookie Crumble" instead of "Crumble Cookie."
Her and Michael's mutual love for donuts and the weekly Donut Thursday pictures.
Owning her home and managing all the updates and repairs it needed (Minus snowblowing. She hated snowblowing!)
In short, we are shaken and so sad to lose our Megan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made in memory to one of the following:

Please join us in celebrating Megan's life on Monday April 27, 2026 at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, MN. Visitation will be at 12:00pm followed by a service at 1:00pm. We hope to continue telling stories about Megan at a luncheon at the Loyal Order Moose, Grand Rapids following the service, food provided by her Spartan gym community.
