Michael Edward ZumMallen, age 73, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024 at his home.

Michael was born in Harvey, IL in 1950 to Albert and Doris ZumMallen. He attended St. John's Lutheran School in Tinley Park, IL through eighth grade and graduated from Lincoln Way High School in Frankfurt, IL. Michael was united in marriage to Brenda Counts in 1972 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Tinley Park, IL. In 1978 they moved to Grand Rapids, MN. Michael had a passion for racing, believing everything needed to go faster and stock was not okay. He knew the tricks of the trade to help machines reach their full potential for his friends; snowmobiles, cars, sprint/race cars. Michael loved the lake life, like cutting trees, enjoying the water, and caring for his property. He also loved food and trying new recipes and restaurants with family and friends.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughters, Karen ZumMallen-Danner of Maplewood, MN, Karrie ZumMallen-Mace of Cass Lake, MN; sisters, Kathleen (Grant) Susan Mulder, Mary (Mike) Kaiser; brother, Carl ZumMallen; and grandchildren, Logan, Simon, William, Charles, Keegan, and Kendrick.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Cedar Creek Grill, 34579 MN 38, Grand Rapids, MN from 12:00-3:00 PM.

The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and staff for the wonderful care given to Mike.
