Nora I. Lease Probst, age 96, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Grand Village in Grand Rapids, MN.
Nora was one of eight children born to Roy and Dora Davis in Cherokee, Iowa in 1928. As a child, Nora traveled all over the Midwest and lived in many places. The family came to settle in Onamia, Minnesota.
Nora met Alfred Lease in Onamia, and the pair married on June 6, 1945 in Hillman, Minnesota Nora and Alfred moved to Grand Rapids in 1953, and together raised five children. After the passing of Alfred in 1975, Nora worked various jobs including JC Penny's, Rhapsody Clothing store, and also as an attendant for female inmates at the Itasca County Jail. She met Marvin Probst, and they were married on October 4, 1980.
Nora was a member of the Eagles Club and the Moose Lodge in Grand Rapids. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing cards with anyone that would sit with her, knitting, and crocheting. Nora was an avid seamstress and baker; she was renown for her sweet rolls, caramel rolls, and fried chicken. She often provided them for family get togethers.
She was a strong independent person, that was stubborn, strict and not afraid to speak her mind, the children knew they were in trouble if they got tapped on the head with her sewing thimble. Nora will be missed by all that knew her.
Nora is preceded in death by her husbands, Alfred and Marvin; parents, daughter, Carol Fox; and siblings,
Arden Davis, Bob Davis, Edith Fideldy, Laura Jones, Sadie Jones, Binnie Jane Lance, and Jean Kippen.; and one great grandchild, Shane.
She is survived by her children, Paulette (Roger) Tobeck, Greg (Dianne) Lease, Randy (Joan) Lease, and Mark (Laurie) Lease; 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024 at the Bass Brook Community Center, 105 5th Street NE, Cohasset, MN 55721 beginning at 2:00 PM and lasting until 4:00 PM.
Nora's family would like to say thank you to Grand Village and Moments Hospice for the excellent care she received.
