Obituary

Patrick R.  Jackson, age 90, of Wirt, MN, passed away August 4, 2023, at Garden Court Chateau in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Pat was born in 1933 on Saint Patrick's Day in Popple, Minnesota, the son of Lloyd and Ella (Liila) Jackson.  He lived in the Grand Rapids area until he moved to Wirt in 1979.  In 1953, Pat joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict.  After being honorably discharged, he met and married Nancy Lee Carlisle in 1956.  Together they raised a family of four children.

In Pat's younger years, he enjoyed trapping, hunting, and snowmobiling.  Trapping would become a lifelong passion and Pat was recognized as the Largest Trap Collector (Bear Traps and Odd Traps) in the United States.  He also enjoyed repairing and restoring antique tractors and heavy equipment – especially crawlers and was known for his outstanding work.

Pat had various jobs until he began working for the Hawkinson Construction Company for more than 20 years.  Following his retirement, Pat and Nancy enjoyed wintering in Arizona in their motorhome.  They both looked forward to selling their "wares" at the local flea markets.  Pat would describe himself as a "Wheeler Dealer" – always able to acquire traps, wares to sell at the flea markets, old tractors, and even real estate.

He was a lifetime member of North American Trap Association, an active member of White Oak Antique Tractor Club, and North Central MN Farm and Antique Association (Blackberry Tractor Club).  He was proud to be a U.S. Veteran.   He truly enjoyed spending time visiting, making new friends across the country through his hobbies.

Pat will be deeply missed by his children, Archietta (Mike) Johnson of Sparks, NV, Lofty Jackson of Grand Rapids, MN and Goldie (Tom) Swalboski of Cohasset, MN; eight grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Jr., Amy (Bill) Johnson Bertram, JesseLee (Kirk) Hanson, William (Jessamy) Swalboski, Dandrea (Scott) Baird, Mary (Nate) Berard, Alizabeth (Beau) Krumrei, and Thomas (Tania) Krumrei, Jr.; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Emmaline (Carl) Olilla; special friend, Lorine Gulstad; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lee Jackson in 2007; daughter, Janella Krumrei; son-in-law, Thomas Krumrei; sister, Judith Ehrhorn; and brothers, Wallace "Bobe" Jackson, Lee "Woody" Jackson, and Leonard Jackson as a child.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at 10 AM, Friday, August 11, 2023 at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids. A Celebration of Pat's Life will follow at 11 AM.   Following the service, inurnment with military honors will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Cohasset, Minnesota.

A special thank you to the staff of Garden Court Chateau and St. Croix Hospice for their kindness and care.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Dementia Society or ALS Foundation.
