Obituary

Patrick James Rassmussen passed away suddenly on January 15, 2026, at his home. He was born in Grand Rapids to James and Bernadine Rassmussen on August 25, 1948. He graduated from Grand Rapids High School and attended Itasca Community College until he joined the National Guard. From there he worked in the mines for US Steel before starting his own contracting business.

Pat was a talented, self-taught, and self-employed finishing carpenter. A true jack of all trades, he was mechanically gifted and known for his ability to fix just about anything. His greatest passion was woodworking, a craft he took immense pride in. That pride was evident throughout the custom home he built himself with the help of friends and family—a true reflection of his skill, dedication, and love for creating things with his hands.

Pat enjoyed summer rides on his Harley-Davidson, cruising in his 1967 Chevelle Malibu, and spending time outdoors riding ATVs and fishing. In recent years, he especially cherished watching his grandson play hockey. He also enjoyed spending time ice fishing with friends and neighbors.

Above all, Pat will be remembered for his laughter and storytelling. Family and friends will deeply miss hearing his many stories shared around the dinner table, at bonfires, or during card games. To know and love Pat was to know a strong, loving, thoughtful, funny, and charming man who truly celebrated life.

Pat leaves behind many cherished memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sherry of 29 years; brother, Robert; in-laws, Theodore & LaVonne Mohler; brothers-in-law, Thomas Karkela and Theodore (Teddy) Mohler; and nephew Cass Mohler.

He is survived by his son, Ryan (Angela) Rassmussen; daughter, Gina (Jason) Anderson; grandson, Rylan Anderson; sister, Peggy Karkela, Vickie (Steve) Wilcox, Debra (Peter) Edmond; brother, Steve G. Rassmussen; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Kent) Klev, Ginger (Guy) Humphrey; brother-in-law, Thomas (Barb) Mohler; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
