Paul Jeffrey "Whitey" Hoey, age 68 of Taconite, passed away at home due to lung cancer on February 26, 2025.

Paul was born February 21, 1957 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, fifth child of Elizabeth and Edward Hoey.  Paul grew up in Taconite and graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine in 1975 and attended the University of Minnesota-Crookston majoring in Natural Resources.

Whitey worked for Troumbly Brothers Construction as a teenager and headed west to work for Cleveland-Cliffs in Casper, Wyoming in uranium mining.  He later ventured to Tonopah, Nevada to work in the gold mining industry.  Paul also worked several years in the Twin Cities for Pepsi-Cola Company, VinylTherm, and Genz-Ryan Plumbing.

Paul was a fan of all Minnesota sports teams and enjoyed softball, canoeing, fishing, and hunting.  He was a lifelong Catholic and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Edward; brother, Ken Hoey; sister, Elizabeth; brother-in-law, Richie Tiburzi; and sister-in-law, Jackie Hoey.

Paul is survived by his sisters, Sandy Tiburzi and Marg (Bill) Casey; brothers, Jim (Ann) Hoey, Don (Nell) Hoey, Tom (Sharon) Hoey, Steve (Julie) Hoey, Rob (Annie) Hoey, and Damian (Teresa) Hoey; 22 nieces and nephews; 19 great nieces and nephews; 70 first cousins including special friend, David Troumbly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 3, 2025 at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Coleraine, Minnesota with visitation beginning at 10 AM.  Father Babu Mandagiri presiding.  Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine.
