Paul F. Lane of Grand Rapids died at his home with his family surrounding him on July 27, 2024, after a courageous battle with many health issues.

Paul was born in Virginia, Minnesota on February 18, 1940, the youngest child of Clara B. Lane and William A. Lane. The family moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan to work in the bomber plants at Willow Run to support the efforts of World War 2. This is where Paul grew up and attended school, graduating from Ypsilanti High School in 1959.

Paul's father left the family shortly after moving to Michigan to return to northern Minnesota. He owned an island on Lake Vermillion. Paul spent summers with his dad on the lake, this is where his lifelong love of Lake Vermillion began. He also loved Corvettes and had three in his lifetime.

He would marry Sharon Lane on June 20, 1964, in Ypsilanti, a marriage that continued for 60 years. They adopted one son, Jason, and had another son, Adam.

Paul and family moved to Ely, Minnesota in 1977 to be closer to Lake Vermillion. They had purchased a one-acre island on the lake and spent vacations and weekends there.

The family moved to Thief River Falls, Minnesota in 1978 after a job offer to be a district manager for Northern Minnesota Utilities where he worked in the natural gas field until retirement.

After retirement, Paul realized a life-long dream, by having a handcrafted log cabin built on the family island, health problems eventually forced them to move full time to Grand Rapids in 2017, where their son Adam lives.

Paul was a great man, husband, and father. He was tough, brash, and wore his emotions and opinions on his sleeve. You always knew where he stood! He was very loyal to his family, he worked hard every day to provide for them. He will be missed greatly. All his sayings (Paulisms) will live on forever.

Paul is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon, son Adam (Suzanne), grandchildren: Carly Vermillion Lane (Graceann Baker) and Elsa Logan Lane, sister Billie Mauk, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul is preceded in death by his son Jason (Colleen Starr), his parents, and many other relatives.

Paul would tell you not to feel bad for losing him, but to "Let it Ride." And that is what we will do.
