Robert "Joe" J. Chastan, of Wabana Township, passed away on August 12, 2026, surrounded by his children and loved ones.

Joe was born on Halloween in 1961. He was an avid outdoorsman with a lifelong love of hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time in nature. He enjoyed being on the water, traveling, and finding any excuse for an adventure or swapping stories around a campfire. With tough love and a strong hug, he was always encouraging those around him to be the best they could be. Above all, Joe was a loving father who cared deeply for his family. He will be remembered for his spontaneous spirit, generosity, and the many lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Mary Chastan; sister, Michelle Palkki; and brother, Butch Chastan.

He is survived by his four children, Jade (Adam) Chastan, Andre' Chastan, Ava Gunderson, and Gage Gunderson; wife, Connie Chastan, and children, Amber Dobson, Amy (Wesley) Mandich, and Allison (Jermaine) Mandich; siblings, Sheila Chastan, Pat (Brad) Andrews, and Lori (Kevin) Linder; and a great many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and loved ones across the country.

Funeral service will be Thursday, August 20th at 1 PM at The Grace Gospel Church in Taconite, MN with visitation a half hour prior to the service. Pastor Lance Edminster will officiate.
