Robert L. Green, 85, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 22, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Robert Lynn Green was born on February 6, 1941, in Northfield, Minnesota, alongside his identical twin brother, Roger Lea, to Genevieve (Lea) and Ivan N. Green. Tragically, his mother passed away shortly after their birth due to complications from childbirth. Robert and Roger were raised in Ortonville, Minnesota, by their paternal aunt and uncle, Olive and Elmer Anderson.

During his time at Ortonville High School, Robert excelled in basketball, football, and baseball, graduating in 1959. He continued playing baseball while earning his pharmacy degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, in 1963. Soon after, he began an internship at Snyder's Drug Store in downtown Minneapolis, where he met the love of his life, Ardell Gustafson. Ardell worked at the cosmetology counter, where she and her coworkers playfully teased Robert for being a "greenhorn." His kind and gentle nature quickly won her over, and after a brief one-month engagement, they were married in April 1964—a true testament to knowing when you've found the one.

Robert and Ardell spent several years moving throughout Iowa and Minnesota as his career required. They began their family in 1969 with the adoption of their son, Jason, followed by their daughter, Nicole (Nikki), in 1972. Robert later accepted a position with Thrifty White in Winona, Minnesota, where his twin brother Roger also lived. The reunion of the twins brought a special closeness, often communicating with few words yet complete understanding. Robert remained especially close to Roger's children, Dave and Lori after Roger's passing.

In the early 1980s, Robert once again stepped in where he was needed at a Thrifty White store in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. After Jason and Nikki graduated high school, Robert and Ardell relocated to the Minneapolis area, where he worked for Cub Foods Pharmacies across the metro. Following an impressive 55-year career as a pharmacist, Robert retired in 2019, and he and Ardell returned to Grand Rapids to be closer to family.

Faith and community were central to Robert's life. Wherever they lived, he and Ardell were active in their church. Robert sang in the choir and played on church softball teams in both Winona and Grand Rapids. He cherished time spent outdoors—camping with his children and grandchildren, canoeing in the Boundary Waters with Ardell, fishing and duck hunting with his son Jason and grandsons, Ryan and Austin. Above all, he found the greatest joy in bringing his family together, his warm smile and laughter reflecting his deep love for them.

Robert will be remembered as a hardworking, selfless man of integrity who took pride in doing his best in all things. He had a charming sense of humor and a playful spirit, often sharing lighthearted mischief with his grandsons.

He is deeply missed by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ardell; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole (Marty) Ostern; son and daughter-in-law, Jason (Kristilee) Green; grandsons, Taylor Grams, Ryan (Genesis) Green, and Austin (Samantha) Green; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Genevieve; his aunt and uncle, Elmer and Olive Anderson; his twin brother, Roger L. Green; sisters, Peggy Stoenner and June Gilbert; and brothers, Miles Green, Leland Green, Dan McPherson, and Dale Green.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Grand Rapids Evangelical Free Church, 34384 County Road 63, Grand Rapids, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Dexter Cogburn will officiate.
