Robert
Katchmark
d. Mar 27, 2024
Grand Rapids
Robert "Funny Bob" James Katchmark, age 78, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at his home with his wife and daughter by his side.
Bob was born in 1946 to Walter and Frances Katchmark in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from Benilde High School and then attended Dunwoody Institute. Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 1967. He trained troops in South Carolina and spent a year in Germany.
Bob married Sally Kindseth on February 20, 1981, and together they lived in St. Paul for 12 years before moving to Grand Rapids, where they have lived for the last 30 years. While he was living in St. Paul, Bob and two friends opened the first Green Mill franchise in 1981, in Edina until 1993. He was employed at Hirshfield's for 20 years in sales, and after moving to Grand Rapids, Bob sold food for U.S. Food Service. After retiring in 2009, he and Sally loved spending winters in Florida, making new friends, and catching up with old ones as well.
Bob was an adventurous cook and loved cooking breakfast for his family, especially his famous "Grandpa Cakes". He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, telling stories, and collecting antiques. He had a unique sense of humor and that is how he got his nickname "Funny Bob". He was fun to be around and loved talking to people. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Ketchmark; and sister, Elaine Katchmark Burke. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sally; daughter Erika (Brian) Behm; three grandchildren, Jack, Andy, and Celia Behm; sisters, Josephine Johnson and Beverly Norris.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 beginning at 9:00 AM at the Fort Snelling Chapel, St. Paul, MN; followed by the 11:30 burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A family luncheon will follow.
