Robert L. Mitchell, age 87, of Cohasset, MN passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, surrounded by his family at home.

Robert Louis was born December 21, 1936, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Vinal and Esther (Eggers) Mitchell.  At a young age his family moved to St. Paul.  Bob attended St. Paul public schools and graduated with the Class of 1955 from Washington High School. It was during his time at Washington High School that he met the love of his life, June Lange. Bob continued his education at the University of Wisconsin – Stout where he studied education.

On April 4, 1956, Bob and June were united in marriage. Following completion of his master's degree in education, he and June moved to Park Falls, Wisconsin where he accepted his first teaching position. In 1964 Bob and June then moved to Brooklyn Center, Minnesota where he began a long tenure at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School. Following his retirement from teaching, Bob and June started Swan Ornamental Iron, which they successfully owned and operated until retiring in 1999. That same year they moved full time to their lake place on Bass Lake in Cohasset, Minnesota. Bob was a talented artist, and for six seasons he displayed his hand welded metal creations at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.

Bob is survived by his wife of 68 years, June of Cohasset, MN; daughter Sue Duckett of Grand Rapids, MN; son William Mitchell of Cloquet, MN; four grandchildren Brian (Tonia) Flander, Lynn Wold, Darek Wold, Robert Mitchell; three great grandchildren Liam, Julian, Esme; sister Ruth (Larry) Thieman of Grand Rapids, MN; nieces and nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his son Dan Mitchell in 2015; grandson Drew Wold; parents, and brothers and sisters.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date, with details to follow.
