Rodney K. Shumaker, age 76, of Grand Rapids, MN. passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Rodney was born in Staples, Mn. to Herbert Thorson and Dorothy (Kuhlman) Shumaker. Rod was very proud of being raised on Island Farm by his father Herbert (Spike) Shumaker. He and his family then moved to Cohasset, Mn. where he participated in the Grand Rapids band with many fond memories. Rod could play almost any instrument that was put in front of him. He also danced through his childhood years and well into his adult years, taking everything from tap, to jazz, to disco. He graduated from Grand Rapids High and continued on to earn a business degree that he used to open his own store, Shumaker's Sew & Vac. During this time, he drove school bus for over 20 years. His heart has held on to so many students that became friends. Rod never met a stranger, and he would bring anyone home that needed help, a meal, or just a friend. He had a huge love for animals and farming. He even started his own feed route for local farmers. We truly believe it was just to "bs" with the locals. He loved every minute of life on his hobby farm, and driving his tractors and old farm trucks. Most of all; he loved his four grand children. Just the mention of any of their names would make his blue eyes sparkle.

Rodney is proceeded in death by his parents and his brother, Dan Thorson.

He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Alan) Hurd; his son, Cody (Marguerite) Shumaker; four grandchildren, Nate, Nick, & Sully Hurd; his precious only granddaughter, Delphie Shumaker; his sisters, Deb Schmidt, Karen Ilten, Kathryn Bode; brother, Alton Shumaker; and special friends that were like family to him, Allie Ferweda and Randy Smith.

A celebration of life will be at a later date.
