Russell Dean Jaeger, age 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Grand Rapids on May 14, 2025.
Born Russell Dean on September 7, 1946, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Theodore and Genevieve Jaeger. A proud graduate of Grand Rapids High School, class of 1964, he went on to proudly serve his country in the Army National Guard from 1964 through 1970. Following his military service, Russ dedicated an impressive 32 years to the construction of roads and bridges within Itasca County, contributing to the community he loved. In the latter part of his career, he shared his work ethic and passion for service at Arrowhead Transit and Green Again Lawn & Landscape.
Russell exemplified a true love for the outdoors, finding joy in fishing and hunting, pursuits that brought him peace and satisfaction. His spirit of mentorship extended beyond his profession, as he took immense pleasure in coaching youth and playing various sports, including bowling, softball, and volleyball, nurturing young talents and fostering a sense of teamwork.
He was preceded in death his parents; and brother Greg.
Russ is survived by his loving daughters: Dianna Case and Kelly (Jack) Wilson; 3 grandchildren: Allie, Sydney, and Desirae; great-granddaughter Ellie; sisters: Nancy (Tom) Moran and Teddi (Reggie) Sellick; brother Wayne (Carol) Jaeger; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever carry cherished memories of his kindness and generosity.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, MN, with a graveside service with military honors planned for Sunday at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
A gathering will take place on Sunday, June 1, 2025, starting at 4 p.m. at the Dutch Room, providing an opportunity for friends and family to reminisce and celebrate a life well-lived.
In these moments of reflection, we remember not only the life of Russell, but the profound impact he had on all who were privileged to know him. May his spirit continue to inspire those he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
