Obituary

Shirley Jane Gallop, 88, of Grand Rapids, MN, formerly of Shell Lake, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Majestic Pines Senior Living, Grand Rapids, MN.

Shirley was born in 1935 to Elmer and Ellen (Johnson) Hawkinson in Shell Lake, WI. She graduated from Shell Lake High School in 1952. On March 31, 1956, Shirley married Douglas J. Gallop at Salem Lutheran Church in Shell Lake, WI. They spent 65 happy years together until Doug's passing in 2021.  Shirley worked from the home, tending to their children through their school years.

In 1973, they moved to Grand Rapids, MN, when Doug joined the First National Bank of Grand Rapids, and then to Minneapolis until 1994. Shirley and Doug spent the next 25 years living at their lake home in Shell Lake in the summers and The Villages, Florida in the winter months. In 2016, Shirley moved to Majestic Pines Senior Living and made it her home. There she met many new people and developed long-lasting friendships. She will be greatly missed by the Majestic Pines Community.

Shirley was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards. Family was always most important to Shirley, and she had a positive impact on everyone who knew her. She loved to bake, and was well known for bringing the best desserts to every gathering.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doug; son, Brian Gallop in 2012; sisters, Lorraine Donatelle, Gloria Tomasiak, Norma Sletterdahl; brother, Elmer "Duke" Hawkinson.

Shirley is survived by her children, Robyn (Rick) Perkins, Brad (Renee Bymark) Gallop; daughter-in-law, Jackie Gallop; grandchildren, Breanna Gallop, Dana (Tyler) Scherf, Graham (Santina) Gallop, Ariel Gallop, Nick (Alexa) Perkins, Kelsey Bymark, and Kade Tix; along with four great grandsons, Tukker and Jayger Scherf, Tripp Bymark, Connor Douglas Perkins.

Visitation will be Friday, October 6, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN followed by the 2:00 PM funeral service. Burial will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner, WI on Monday, October 9, 2023.
