Shirley Ann Miner, age 86, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2023, surrounded by her close friends and family.
Shirley was born on February 26, 1937, to Walter and Isabella "Izzy" (Bishop) Washburn in Swatara, MN. She grew up loving many activities including ceramic making, playing card games with the neighborhood ladies, bowling, cooking, baking, and shopping. Shirley was courted by Jerome "Jerry" Thomas Miner while attending Grand Rapids High School. Following graduation, they married on July 28, 1956. Together they raised one son and two daughters. Shirley devoted her life to supporting her husband, raising their children, and playing with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family dogs. Her favorite past time included traveling with family, pontoon rides on Lake Pokegama, cooking for deer camp, watching 'the show' at the theater, catching up on the daily episode of All My Children, and going out for weekly lunches at Country Kitchen with lifelong friend, Jeannie. Shirley never missed an opportunity to support her grandchildren and great grandchildren by attending graduations, school activities, baby showers, dance recitals and more. During Shirley's life she volunteered at St. Joseph's Catholic Church including teaching Sunday school and cooking and baking for church functions. Shirley's friends and family will fondly remember her generosity especially her talent of giving unique and meaningful gifts.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jerome "Jerry" Arnold Washburn, and spouse, Jerry Miner.
Shirley is survived by her children; son, Mark (Peggy) Miner, daughters, Crystal (Tony) Serratore, Patti (Steve) Rutt; close friends, Jeannie and Roger Czekalski of Grand Rapids, MN; seven grandchildren, Jessica (John) Angell, Jamie (Brandon) Kleinendorst, Nina (Nathan) Deno, Jacob (Tammy) Dufner; Erin Miner, Nicholas Serratore, and Joshua Miner; five great grandchildren, Thomas and Phoenix Kleinendorst, Alexander and Lillian Angell, and Corwin Deno.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 9:30 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grand Rapids, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM with a luncheon to follow at the Eagle's Club, Grand Rapids, MN. Father Jerry Weiss will officiate. A private burial will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.
The Miner family sincerely thanks the Itasca Hospice family and the compassionate caregivers of the River Grand for their love and support they shared with Shirley. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Essentia Health, Itasca Hospice, 202 NE 3rd Street, Grand Rapids, MN 55744.
