Shirley Jean Mustar, age 93, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Friday, December 12, 2025, at her home with her family by her side.
Shirley was born in 1932 in Cass Lake, MN to Lee and Vallerie South. She graduated from Cass Lake High School in 1950. Shirley worked as a secretary for the Cass Lake School System where she would later meet her future husband, Frank. On July 6, 1963, she married Frank Mustar in Cass Lake, MN. Shirley and Frank moved to White Bear Lake, MN where they raised their family and lived for 30 years. While living in White Bear Lake, MN, Shirley worked for the school system in the library. Following retirement, Shirley and Frank moved to Cohasset, MN where they lived for 25 years before moving to Grand Rapids, MN. She was a member of First Baptist Church (now Eagle Brook Church) in White Bear Lake where she taught Sunday School for many years. Shirley is a member of Grace Bible Chapel in Grand Rapids, MN. She enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, cross stitch, any kind of puzzles, flower and vegetable gardening, and most of all spending time with her family and watching her children and grandchildren play various sports or instruments or anything else they enjoyed.
She is preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Lloyd, Al, and Stan South; infant sister, Barbara South; and special cousin, Jordis Franklin.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 62 years, Frank; one daughter, Mary (Dave) Garner of Pengilly, MN; two sons, Michael (Beth) Mustar of Mahtomedi, MN, and Joseph (Darla) Mustar of Cohasset, MN; one sister, Bonnie (Paul) Swan of Cohasset, MN; one brother, Rod (Kathy) South of Grand Rapids, MN; 5 grandchildren, Maty (Dawson) DeMars, Sam (Hannah) Mustar, Ellie Mustar, Makenzie Mustar, and Olivia Mustar; 4 step grandchildren; 1 great grandchild on the way; 8 step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM at Grace Bible Chapel, Grand Rapids, MN with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Rev. Charles Nelson will officiate. Burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery, Cohasset, MN.
