Stella Oberstar, age 97, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024, at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, Grand Rapids, MN.
Stella was born in Hibbing, MN to Joseph and Della Perro on March 3, 1927. She graduated from Hibbing High School. Stella was united in marriage to Dean Peck in 1946 and they were blessed with four children, Barb, Jo, Dean and Randy. They relocated to Grand Rapids in 1950 and became owners of Pokegama Store and 169 Club, later opening an A&W in St. Cloud. After returning to Grand Rapids, they purchased the Dairy Queen. Stella attended Itasca Community College and obtained her LP license. She worked as a nurse at Itasca Clinic and also volunteered at the local food shelf, food bank, and with hospice.
In 1979, her husband Dean had passed away and was later remarried in 1983 to Frank Oberstar. Stella enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, and knitting many sweaters and Afghans.
Stella is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Dean Peck, and Frank Oberstar; son, Randy Peck; and three brothers, Nick Perro, John Perro, and Fred "Babe" Perro.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Don) Mortenson, and JoAnne (Dick) Jensen; son, Dean (Cathy) Peck; five grandchildren, Shelly, Tami, Gabe, Jacob, and Rianna; one great-granddaughter; and brother, Alfred (Millie) Perro.
Per Stella's wishes, no services will be held.
