Timothy Michael Thomas, age 72, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Son of Bernard R. and Elsie C. (Sigfrinius) Thomas, Tim was raised in Marble, MN, and graduated from Greenway High School in 1972. He then attended Itasca Community College and the University of Minnesota Duluth, graduating with a degree in Business.

Tim met the "Love of his Life," Nancy Anne Serich of Calumet, when they were in junior high, and they became high school sweethearts. They were united in marriage on July 29, 1978, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marble, MN.

They made their home in Calumet, MN. In 1984, Tim and Nancy welcomed a daughter, Andrea Marie, into their family.

Tim was employed with National Steel in Keewatin, MN and Mesaba Oil & Propane in Marble, MN. Tim served with the Calumet Fire Department and became Mayor of Calumet, MN. He was an active member of the Greenway Knights of Columbus, helping to organize their annual youth hockey tournaments.

After a few years, Tim and Nancy moved their family to Grand Rapids, MN, where they welcomed a son, Anthony Timothy, into their family.

Tim was employed with the Itasca County Sheriff's Office as a Dispatcher/Jailer and later became 911 Dispatch Supervisor. He was also the Itasca County Emergency Management Director, until his retirement in 2011. After retirement, Tim drove part-time for Dondelinger Ford of Grand Rapids.

Tim and Nancy spent eight years enjoying Arizona in the winter and time vacationing. Above all else, Tim loved his family. Spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren was his most treasured pastime, along with time spent at the family cabin. He adored his wife and provided unconditional love and support to his children.

Tim was thoughtful, always quick with a joke and an infectious laugh, a friend to many, loved by all, and touched many lives.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Elsie Thomas; brother Bruce Thomas; sister-in-law Dorothy Johnson Thomas; nephew David Thomas; and brother-in-law Edward Norgord.

Tim is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, of 48 years; daughter Andrea (Tyler Jaros) Dwyer; son Anthony (Billi Jo Protzman) Thomas; grandchildren Addison, Tommy, Jett & Hayden; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Deanna Serich Norgord, Tom & Susan (Serich) Riehle, Ken & Rosemary (Serich) Maki, Jim & Barb (Serich) Arthurs, and Richard & Kristi (Dukowitz) Serich; along with many nieces and nephews and a beloved aunt, Beverly Sigfrinius.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MN, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM. Father Blake Rozier will officiate. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine, MN.  Arrangements are with Rowe Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Grand Rapids, MN.
