Timothy Scott
Higgins
d. Mar 21, 2024
Timothy Scott Higgins, age 64, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 21, 2024. He was born in Grand Rapids on February 6, 1960, to Floyd and Dorothy (Swanson) Higgins. Tim grew up on Pokegama Lake in Grand Rapids, graduating from GRHS in 1979, before diving headfirst into the trades. He became a skilled contractor and carpenter. His craftsmanship was renowned, a testament to his dedication and pride in his work.
Though he ventured briefly to California, home called him back to Grand Rapids, where he continued to leave his mark on the landscape, both in the structures he built and the lives he touched. Taking a break from construction, he took on a new role as a jailor for the Itasca County Sheriff's Department where he retired from in 2014.
Tim found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing with his family on Bowstring and Pokegama, and roaming the woods in Northome at the shack; he found contentment in nature. But perhaps what brought him the most happiness was being surrounded by his family. He was a big kid at heart, especially cherishing time with his grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews.
Known for his solid advice, unwavering support, sense of humor and a hearty laugh that could fill a room, Tim was everyone's right-hand man. He didn't need grand gestures to show his love and care; his actions spoke volumes. Always putting others before himself, he was extremely generous with his time and talents, stopping what he was doing to help at the drop of a hat.
His Faith was strong and he found comfort in God, knowing that when it was his time, he would be called Home. His presence will be sorely missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Tim is survived by his daughter: Kayla Higgins (Dillon Haynes) and her children, Mason and Camille; sons, Joseph Higgins and Christian Higgins; Father: Floyd Higgins (Jean Long) sisters: Kim (Bill) Block and Doreen Higgins; brother, Jeff (Sharyle) Higgins; and many loved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended relatives, and friends.
Tim was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Higgins; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Private interment will take place at a later date at Harris Cemetery, Grand Rapids.
