Trudy M.
Markuson
d. Nov 7, 2023
Grand Rapids
Trudy (Miller) Markuson, age 84, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Garden Court Chateau after suffering with Alzheimers Dementia.
Trudy was born in Grand Rapids, MN to Victor and Lena (Merrill) Edoff. She attended schools in the Grand Rapids area and then made her living by waitressing. She married Mike Miller on January 12, 1957, in Chicago, IL., just before he entered the Navy. While in Chicago, they had daughters Deb and Diana. After the family moved to Grand Rapids, they had their son David. Trudy attended Grace Bible Chapel, where she was a Sunday School teacher, a Pioneer Girls leader and was involved in Bible Studies. She most recently attended Cohasset Community Bible Chapel.
Trudy was always there for her children, staying at home until they were in school. She ran a home daycare, took in friends ironing and also coached girls softball. Trudy had an excellent work ethic, at times working two jobs. After Trudy and Mike divorced, she worked in the IGA bakery and was Hostess at the Sawmill Inn. She was able to follow her dream of owning a business by moving to Fergus Falls, MN where she owned and operated a successful restaurant named The Calico Rose. Upon returning to Grand Rapids, she waitressed and bartended at the Forest Lake Restaurant where she made many friends. She loved to banter with her customers and coworkers with her humor and quick wit, as much as they loved trying to out-do her. Just prior to her retirement she sold pull tabs for GRAHA.
Her favorite pastimes were cooking, gardening, fishing, deer hunting, table games and jigsaw puzzles. Trudy had a very giving heart and will truly be missed by many family members and friends.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, brothers Raymond, Carl, and Alfred; nieces, Kimberly Wilson and Kathy Fuller, nephew, Joe Proctor; and great nephew, Sean Melius.
Trudy is survived by her children Deb Liebel, Fargo, ND, Diana (Jay) Fahrenbruch, Kearney, NE and David (Becky) Miller, Side Lake, MN; grandchildren Michael (Stacey) Schommer, Tara Anderson, Ryan Anderson (Alison Hanson) and Toby Miller; great grandchildren Casey Schommer, Alexis Schommer, Ava Schommer and Emmit Sampson. Trudy is also survived by her brother Lorence Edoff, sisters Marion Melius, Millie Karg, Rose Cechini and Deloris Proctor, her friend/adopted son Ritchie Scott, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN and on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Community Bible Chapel, Cohasset, MN. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the church. Rev. Joel Rygh will officiate. Burial will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.
Trudy's family sincerely thanks both Garden Court Chateau and St Croix Hospice for their compassionate care, their love and support. It truly was a gift to her family knowing she was happy and well cared for. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Cure Alzheimers Fund.
