Verl N. McCarty, age 87, of Cohasset, Minnesota, died Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Verl was born in 1938 to Thornton and Mildred (Ottinger) McCarty in Springvale Township, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Campion in 1965 and they enjoyed 44 years of marriage and family life together before Mary Jo's passing in 2009. Verl lived most of his life in Champlin, Minnesota and worked as a long-haul truck driver for Hardware Hank. His happiest and proudest moments in life were as a husband, father, and grandfather.
Verl retired and moved to Cohasset, Minnesota in 2002 to enjoy time on Bass Lake. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. Verl also loved to play cribbage and exercise at the YMCA and was an active member of the Deer River Sportsman Club. Verl was a proud U.S. Army veteran and served overseas in Germany and France before his honorable discharge in November of 1964.
Verl was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo McCarty; parents Thornton and Mildred McCarty; brothers Mac Carrington, Jim McCarty, Lynn McCarty and sister Meryl McCarty.
Verl is survived by son Michael (Heidi) McCarty; daughter Sheila (Don) Anderson; sisters Dixie Struckman, Sandy (Bill) Boese and brother Ned (Lela) McCarty; grandchildren Hunter (Payton) McCarty, Logan (Michelle) McCarty, Gavin McCarty, Jacob (Elly) Anderson, and Julie Anderson; great grandchildren Dakota McCarty, Ezran McCarty, Harrison McCarty, Fisher McCarty, Callon McCarty, Raife McCarty, and Arden McCarty; many dear nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Rowe Funeral Home 510 NW 1st Ave. Grand Rapids, MN and will continue on Monday morning, March 9, 2026 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 315 SW 21st St. Grand Rapids, MN from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM. Father Blake Rozier will officiate. Burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Cohasset, MN with full military honors.
