Obituary

William "Bill" Alan Davis, age 75, of Balsam, MN, died October 22, 2025, on his hunting land in Balsam, MN.

Born January 31, 1950, in St. Paul, MN. He was the proud son of Floyd R. and Dorothy Ruth (Van Houten) Davis. When Bill was a year old the family moved to Balsam to operate the Big Balsam Camp Resort. He graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1968.

After his road trip to California with his cousin, Pat, and friend, Ron, he was drafted into the Army going to Vietnam for a year. Upon returning home, he was married to Peg Powers on February 7, 1971. After Bill's time in the Army, he went to Dunwoody Institute graduating with honors. Bill worked at Swanson's Chevrolet for five years, then was employed at Itasca County Road and Bridge in Balsam until he retired in 2008.

Bill and Peg were blessed with three children, Chad, Holly, and Hannah. At the age of six years old, the children showed signs of the rare disorder, Batten disease, which took their lives. This disorder causes an early death, but all three children lived at home into their 30's.

Bill enjoyed working from sunup to sundown, or even later, on a project. Bill showed his mechanical ability at an early age, overhauling outboard motors at the age of eight. If a problem or a solution was to be found, Bill would find one. He would make something if nothing could be found. Anyone that knew Bill knew he was a genius when it came to anything mechanical.

He also enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, reading, traveling with his family across country, and taking 31 cruises with his wife after the children passed.

His parents; three children, Chad, Holly, and Hannah; brother, Bobby; sisters-in-law, Sue and Lonna; nephews, Grant and Wade; mother- in -law and father-in-law, Dave and Lucille Powers; and friends, Doug and Georgine Barcus, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loyal wife of 54 years, Peg; siblings, Gordon (Jackie) Davis; Lorraine (Erling) Madsen, and Peggy (Bill) Trombley; in-laws, Kathe Powers, Bill Powers, Dave (Nan) Powers, Paul (Tammy) Powers, Chris (Chad) Yost, and Vern Bullinger; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside burial will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00 at Balsam Cemetery with military honors being given.
