William
Nelson
d. Aug 2, 2026
William Nelson, known affectionately as Bill, age 76, was born July 20, 1950 and passed away peacefully at his home on August 2, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William (Swede) Nelson and Kathleen (Kaye) Weiland; and his wife Dona Buchanon. He is survived by his son, Derek Logan and daughter-in-law Natalie; his cherished grandchildren; Krystal, Hailey, and Lukas; his best friend and beloved partner Sandy Renault; sisters, Sharon (Bob), Bonnie (Larry), Mary Jo and Kathy and a large circle of family, friends, hunting and fishing buddies.
Bill grew up in North Minneapolis and attended Our Lady of Victory grade school, Franklin Jr and graduated from North High. A dedicated professional, Bill spent many years working as a skilled floor specialist at B&B Flooring. In 1994 Bill married Dona Buchanon and eventually purchased Cedar Beach Resort on Thunder Lake in Remer, Minnesota. Bill poured his craftsmanship and creativity into building a beautiful resort. He took great joy entertaining countless families and made life-long friends during this time. After Dona's passing Bill moved to Lower Lake Tripoli. In the spring of a later year he met Sandy and for 15 years they have enjoyed splitting their time between the warm weather of Sarasota, Florida and the familiar shores of Remer.
Bill will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, his quick wit, and unique ability to deliver profound life advice disguised as a simple one-liner. He was incredibly kind, exceptionally generous, and always willing to help anyone, anywhere. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A social gathering to celebrate Bill's life will be held at Deer Haven on Thunder restaurant in Remer on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026 from 11am to 3pm. All who know and love him are invited to attend.
